Now I realize that many of my readers live in states or countries that don’t allow you to carry firearms. I’m so sorry that you live where you live. But if you do happen to live in a place where they graciously grant you the right to protect yourself, USE THAT RIGHT! I know so many preparedness minded people that refuse to do so for reasons I don’t understand.
When you do come to your senses and finally get out to get your permit please do the following:
- Learn How To Use A Firearm First – Do not be the dope that showed up to class with a borrowed gun and has no knowledge of how a gun works or the basics of gun safety.
- Find A Class That Includes A Portion Where You Shoot Your Weapon – Not only is this a great opportunity to have a professional give you some instruction, it’s also a good indicator that the class will be more interactive and interesting.
- Turn In Your Paperwork Promptly After Completing The Course – Here in Utah you have 1 year to turn in your paperwork before having to retake that wonderful 4 hour class. You’d be surprised how fast a year goes by.
- Stay Up On Your Training – If you don’t maintain your skills, you carrying a gun may end up being more dangerous to you than not. To avoid deadly accidents and mistakes, you need to stay acquainted with the use of a gun if you plan on carrying. Please don’t be one of those “I’ll turn into superman and remember everything I’d ever need to know when the situation arises” type of people.

if you don’t practice don’t carry…
Thanks Jessica, I think people don’t get them because they feel it infringes on the second amendment and the “right of the people to keep and bare arms shall not be infringed” language.
Even though I am quite safe and proficient with my sidearm, and I believe the 2nd amendment says nothing about having to get a ccw to be armed or be “allowed” to carry concealed, and requiring them is just as unconstitutional as a weapons ban,(my wife calls me the moon lander denier guy lol),I also realize I live in the real world and even though open carry is supposed to be allowed by law in my state without a licence, in practice not so much.Try walking around town or in the grocery store with a pistol in a holster on your belt around here will bring the cops down on you in less than 15 minutes with a “Scary man with a gun” call from a “concerned” citizen.
Therefore, I have to follow these gun laws or suffer the consequences if I carry without one..
So after many years of owning but not carrying except at home and around the farm My wife and I signed up together for next month.Getting a nice 40.00 couples discount lowering the cost to 90.00 a piece. We are getting grandma to baby sit and are getting our ccw instruction from a NRA advanced defensive pistol instructor.
We shopped around and found out that there are many Levels of instruction being offered here in Michigan to get your ccw. From the retired cop teaching the basics in his home to security firms that teach police and instructors to become instructors.
We chose the latter, Full 8 hour course 4 classroom and 4 range. With opportunities to take advanced 2nd and 3rd level offensive and defensive classes afterwards (if I have to do it, Might as well do it 100%).
.
Thanks for the wonderful sight and congrats on the new bundle of joy
