Water. Without it we die in a matter of days. Unfiltered it can kill us in even worse ways such as dysentery. This is why I happily accepted FamilyStorehouse.net‘s invitation to review one of their favorite products: Sawyer’s Complete Water Treatment System. And I’m so happy that I did!

Features

  • 4 Liter Capacity
  • Light Weight: 20 ounces
  • Flow Rate: 4 Liters in under 6 minutes
  • Removes: Bacteria and Protoza
  • Life Expectancy: 1 Million Gallons

Each filter is certified for ABSOLUTE microns; that means there is no pore size larger than 0.1 or 0.02 micron in size. This makes it impossible for harmful bacteria, protozoa, or cysts like E. coli, Giradia, Vibrio cholerae and Salmonella typhi (which cause Cholera and Typhoid) to pass through the Sawyer PointONE™ biological filter. At 7 log (99.99999%) the filter attains the highest level of filtration available today.

All very interesting, but I wanted to see it in action. “Kick the tires” if you will. So I did:

Impressive, are they not?

Not Seen In the Video – Care and Maintenance

Faucet Adapter

If you are using this while running water is still available (say if you went on a camping trip). You can easily backwash the filter by hooking the blue side of the filter to the faucet adapter and pushing the rubber end onto the nozzle of your faucet.

After running the water for around 30 seconds, your filter will be clean and good as new.

Manually Backwashing Your Filter

To do this, simply apply body weight (or roll up) a filled clean water bag with the filter attached. This will reverse the flow of water through the filter. Do this with at least 16 ounces of water.

If Your Water Tastes Funky

Certain flavors can stain the inner of the dirty water bag. To eliminate this added taste, add 4Tbs of baking soda to the dirty water bag with warm water. Let it sit for an hour then rinse it out. Do not run the baking soda mixture through your filter.

Sanitizing Your Filter

After using your filter a lot, you’ll want to sanitize it. All you do is add a cap full of chlorine bleach to one quart of clean water and pass it through the filter by squeezing the gray water bag on a flat surface. Do not attach the filter to the blue bag during this process. Wait 20 minutes then drain the water from the filter.
