So everyone is always asking me for portion/serving necessities for food storage. Those of you who read my stuff frequently, know that I don’t like to put definitive numbers on these things. But since you all won’t leave me alone about it ;) … Food Insurance was nice enough to put together this nifty little infographic for me spelling out the serving necessities of food storage for a family of five based on the food pyramid. Enjoy!
“What are you going to do when disaster strikes and there is no more food at your local grocery store? Here is a food storage list, provided by foodinsurance.com, of what would provide a healthy diet for your family.”

YIKES i’m a bit behind by that chart…
That chart is exactly what people need to see. Thanks for having such great insight. I recommend starting with a 72 hour kit for each member of your family. When you have that under control then store enough water that your family would consume in a week. Make goals each month and what may seem like an overwhelming task can easily be accomplished.
Great infographic. It can definitely help those who are planning to store emergency and survival food, giving them an idea how much to store.
Is this for 5 adults?
The water figures seem quite conservative. I came out with about 3600 gallons when including minimal hygiene and some cooking of grains and beans. Minimum of 2 gallons/person/day.
