My barebones list for food storage necessities for one adult male. For an average adult woman multiply the amounts by 0.75. For a child ages 1-3 multiply it by 0.3. For children 4-6 multiply by 0.5. Children 7-9 multiply by 0.75. I’ve listed the category along with the weight in food you need. Under each category are the basics this weight should be distributed into. It is up to you how you distribute it. In the space provided before each item write in the amount in pounds you have of each.

Geranium Vital Aromatherapy Oil also makes an excellent Hard surface household cleaner.Hair care – I have heard conversation referencing Geranium Oil to the treatment of Head Lice. There are many uses for Geranium Oil as a skincare remedy. Scalds, eczema, shingles and bruises make the short list of potential patients for Geranium important oil.
Even among skeptics of alternative medicine, it is hard to underestimate the body’s capacity to naturally put aside that which ails it once it has a chance to get into a state of well-being. It’s remarkable how a lot the way we feel in our minds can reflect itself upon the way we feel, as well as the practice of aromatherapy seeks to promote just that. The general notion would be to put your self into as peaceful and environment as feasible, perhaps with some very light music, and slowly burn the essences of different types of plants.
I think your list is excellent, however I could not find the time frame that the food is for. Is it for 1 year, 2? Just wondering before I start buying!
Hey Andrew, This list is good for 1 year’s worth of storage (approximately). It’s a good starting place but can always be adjusted to your family’s needs. Sorry about not clarifying earlier.
What about a food list for a small apartment dwelling of 970 sq.ft for 5 people living in it. 3 children and two adults. I have limited space to store up 1 years worth of food. I’m looking at probably 3 months tops.
Working on it for you now David!
Your blog is excellent and you’re very inspirational to me. Do you have any advice for a 20something living by yourself in an apartment? THANK you
I’m sure I could bore you all day long with advice but if I only had two words of wisdom for you they would be 1) have a firearm and know how to use it (which it looks like you’re on top of based on what I see on your blog). 2) Anyone living on their own should have a bug out plan that gets them to family or another group of preppers. Wherever this group of people is, this is where you should store the bulk of your supplies and long term food. Everything in your apartment should be for a short term hunker down along with a bullet proof bug out plan to get you with those people. Survival is much much harder by yourself than with a community where you can work together to prepare and protect. I hope that helps! :)
Don’t forget to plan for your pets, too. Be sure you have enough supplies for them.
Thanks for the list.
Do you have a good book you can recommend to get organized and get started?
Lets put aside the prepper part. I got into this because of cost. 25# of rice is a lot cheaper than 1# bags. Canned goods sale. 1/2 off sometimes. Pasta also 1/2 off so I buy 20#. Prepared and I save money for fun stuff. Still have to eat.
In your list of aux. foods, you have cake, pancake,& muffin mixes, when expiration dates are exceeded these mixes become very dangerious. They do have molds and spores that will grow in them making them even posionious to some sensitive people. Dont use after expired for no reason. use regular flour & such.
This is why personalizing your food storage is so wonderful! For many people, easy meal organization is a higher priority than longevity – less to think about. My family is huge on pancakes and muffins, so we rotate through our supplies long before their expiration is due. If your family however doesn’t intend on rotating through your supply as fast, the ease of meal organization isn’t as important, or maybe you just like the homemade stuff better, than storing raw ingredients is a fantastic alternative! :)
Thank you for the list. I’ve seen several and I prefer yours. Also, a crisis does not mean just flood or earthquake, it can also mean daily living. Look at the price of food…everyday it’s going up. That’s a crisis! If you have prepped, you can at least eat for less longer than most. Thanks for all your hard work.
Great point Mimi! It really is incredible how we are staring crisis in the face and so many people fail to see it. Pretty soon we’ll be paying $7 for a gallon of milk!
